Tax Return Filing and Payment Extensions
Written by Jeffrey Davine
As a result of the Coronavirus crisis, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin recently extended the deadline for payment of 2019 federal income taxes from April 15th to July 15th. This extension, however, did not apply to the filing of 2019 tax returns.
Today, the Treasury Secretary announced that the filing deadline for 2019 tax returns would be extended to match the new payment deadline. Secretary Mnuchin stated that, “at . . . (the President’s) direction, we are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15. All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties.”
The California Franchise Tax Board has announced similar tax relief for California taxpayers. Taxpayers who are required to file a California tax return and/or pay California income taxes now have until July 15th to satisfy these obligations.
Does the July 15 date automatically include Form 709?
